Easter Balloon Videos

Posted by Raffael on June 15, 2016.

Remember our first balloon mission in the end of last March? Here are finally the breathtaking images captured with our on-board camera. While the available storage space and battery time of the camera weren’t enough to film the landing in the tree, we could retrieve all recordings from the start till after the moment of the balloon’s highest altitude.

Watch the videos on our youtube channel:

The balloon was launched at Parc Russel, St Sulpice, Switzerland where it began its journey over western Switzerland. It flew a distance of over 150 km above the cantons of Vaud, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, Bern, Solothurn and landed safely with a parachute in a forest in Aarau, canton of Aargau. In order to retrieve the payload and the videos, we had to climb up a tree for 20 m, of course with appropriate safety gear! Watch here how the parachute and the payloads were entangled in the tree and how we got it all down to the ground:
